Scandal! Human fish Michael Phelps has been caught smoking a bong. That is, according to The News of the World, which means there's a 1% chance it's actually Phelps and a 99% chance it's any frat guy across America. See the photo here and judge for yourself.UPDATE: The photo is real! Phelps issued the following statement in regards to the picture:
" 'I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment," Phelps said in the statement released by one of his agents. "I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.' "
Translation: "I'm so sorry. I promise my fans and the public that I will do the right thing from now on: only smoke pot alone on my couch while watching Family Guy."

It's amazing the resources that have been spent on this incident. Now that eight people have been arrested, one has to think that perhaps this wasn't a victimless crime.
I find it amusing that its SUCH a big deal. So what if he's smoking a bong. There are millions of people that smoke all day, every day and we don't care about them. Obviously he doesn't smoke excessivly he won EIGHT golds for goodness sake. Leave the poor kid alone.
who the hell cares that he smoked pot? you basically want to ban one of the most AMAZING athletes in the world from the 2012 olympics because for once in his life, he got to act like a normal 23 year old. that's dumb, if i won 8 fucking gold medals in the olympics and set world records, i would take advantage of the spot light too, go to parties, and be everyone's best friend. so shut the fuck up and let him live his life and go to the 2012 olympics and kick even more ass. he's an amazing swimmer, athlete, and person, so pull your head out of your ass and get the fuck over it.
Pot by no means can enhance someone's ability to swim, if anything it hinders it. Phelps being able to smoke pot and win that many medals... thats just that much more impressive.
Honestly, the guy wins 8 gold medals and you freak because he smoked a little bit? Who cares, none of the people shunning him can go win 8 gold medals at anything. The guy is still a sports icon, pot smoker or not. Give the poor guy a break.
